Portland, OR (May 14, 2026) – The Salvation Army Cascade Division, during National Salvation Army Week (May 11–17), will present the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) with the traveling Commander’s Trophy on Friday, May 15 during the annual All About Hope Portland Metro fundraiser.
Accepting the trophy on behalf of PPB is Captain Christopher Burley during the annual event being held from 6–9 p.m. at Waverley Country Club, located at 1100 SE Waverley Dr. in Portland.
The Commander’s Trophy is given to the winner of a friendly Kettle Bellringing Competition during the holiday season between Portland Police Bureau and Portland Fire & Rescue. The annual competition started at Christmas 2021.
Major Harold Laubach, Portland Metro Coordinator of The Salvation Army Cascade Division, noted that as the organization celebrates National Salvation Army Week, it is especially fitting to honor Portland Police Bureau during National Police Week (May 10–16).
"The Salvation Army is grateful to both the Portland Police Department and Portland Fire & Rescue for their ongoing participation in the Commander's Trophy," Major Laubach said. "Our iconic red kettles are a significant part of our annual campaign to ensure that we have the resources to continue meeting the needs of our community members in times of their distress. The competition is real at the Commander's Trophy, but it is exercised with an evident spirit of kindred unity. Congratulations to the Portland Police Department for its second consecutive win. We are already looking forward to this year’s event."
The City of Portland Mayor Keith Wilson will also be in attendance during the All About Hope fundraiser. Mayor Wilson will give a brief presentation to the crowd of about 150 participants, who will enjoy dinner, a silent auction, dessert dash, and learn more about local Salvation Army programs.
The Salvation Army Cascade Division in 2025 provided services to nearly 103,957 individuals, which included 121,815 nights of lodging, more than 559,900 meals and snacks, and summer camps for more than 800 children, many of whom are from underprivileged or homeless families in our local communities.
The Salvation Army has been caring for people on the streets of Portland for 140 years. Every year, The Salvation Army helps millions of people overcome poverty, addiction, and economic hardships, working in nearly every ZIP code in America.
By providing food, shelter, eviction prevention assistance, emergency disaster relief, addiction recovery, after-school and summer youth programs, spiritual enrichment, and more, The Salvation Army is doing the most good at 6,400 centers of operation around the country.

Portland, OR — On Friday, Jan. 16, at 9 a.m., Franz Bakery will present The Salvation Army in Portland with a $20,853 check during a presentation including leaders of Franz and The Salvation Army. The check presentation will be held at the Franz Bakery Outlet, located at 311 NE 11th Ave. in Portland.
The donation was collected as part of a generous “Round-Up” campaign for the second consecutive year at all 63 Franz Outlet Bakery stores in December. Franz Bakery is a long-time business supporter of The Salvation Army in Portland. Additionally, as part of the holiday season food boxes program, Franz donated 17,000 loaves of bread.
Major Jonathan Harvey, Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army Cascade Division, said it is because of partnerships like this with Franz that allows the local nonprofit to help people in need all year long.
“We are grateful to our business partners like Franz who make it possible for us to ensure families in our community don’t go hungry,” said Major Jonathan. “The food boxes we distribute each Christmas season are more than groceries; they are a lifeline of hope and dignity for families facing hardship.”
The funding will be used in part to support Salvation Army food programs across the Portland Metro area, which includes four on-site food pantries at Clackamas Corps, Gresham Corps & Community Center, Moore Street Corps & Community Center, and the Washington County HOPE Center. A mobile food pantry was added last year to support food insecurity in more rural areas of Washington County.
