Child Care Support for Families Affected by Wildfires

Kroc Child Care FEE WAIVED for Families Affected by Wildfires at The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Salem


Salem, OR (September 29, 2020) In response to the wildfires, The Salvation Army has been providing meals and services for evacuees across Oregon since September 8.

The Salvation Army has started to transition from relief to recovery for those affected by the wildfires. Effective immediately, the Kroc Center in Salem, Oregon is providing childcare support for children ages 5-12 and is waiving the fee for families affected by the wildfires.  

Kroc Child Care includes instructional support and scheduled time for students to complete distance learning objectives. Additionally, time is designated for game room access and physical fitness such as pool, rock wall and gym activities.  This structure allows opportunities for social interactions with students their age. Children can opt in for lunch and snacks or bring a meal from home. 

Childcare is available Monday – Friday from 7:30am – 5:30pm at the Salem Kroc Center. Health and Safety guidelines from the Department of Education’s Early Learning Division and the Oregon Health Authority are being strictly followed and children are placed in stable groups.  Along with maintaining safety of children and staff, an atmosphere of learning and recreation is being cultivated. 

Weekly price is $220 for guests and $190 for Kroc Members. This fee is waived for children displaced by the wildfires.

To help ensure continued operation of this service for wildfire evacuees, donations can be made at krocsalem.org. Donations stay in the community to help your neighbors in need.
