IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS IN NORTH PORTLAND

Portland, OR (December 17, 2019) – The Angel Tree Program provides gifts of toys to over 3,000 families in Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington Counties, who otherwise might not have anything for Christmas. Children who are recipients of Angel Tree gifts are from families who have applied for Christmas assistance through the Social Services program of The Salvation Army.

On Tuesday, December 17 at 6:00 PM volunteers will transform The Salvation Army’s gymnasium in North Portland into a Toy Shop. Then on Wednesday, December 18 families will start picking up toys from the Toy Shop.

Franz Bakery will also be at The Salvation Army in North Portland (5325 N Williams Ave, Portland, OR 97217) to distribute free grilled cheese sandwiches from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 18.

The Salvation Army is thankful for the generosity of the companies and organizations who hosted Angel Trees, and community members across the Portland Metro area who purchased gifts to help families in need.

RED KETTLE UPDATE
Christmas is right around the corner, which means there is less than a week to donate at the Red Kettle. The Salvation Army is asking the community to give what they can to help them reach their goal of $690,000.

“Our most recent numbers show us nearly 50% of the way to reaching our goal. When you donate in a Red Kettle, that money stays in your community to help your neighbors in need” says Major Robert Lloyd, The Salvation Army Portland Metro Coordinator.

Funds raised during the Kettle Season provides critical support for over 80,000 people, Your donation supports Christmas family assistance, year-round assistance for low-income families and individuals, food pantries, youth programs, summer camps, character-building classes, homeless assistance, veterans’ programs, seniors assistance and case management.

“We are here for the community and will continue to help our community to the best of our capacity and our means. We can do more with the community’s help, so please throw a couple extra coins or dollars into the next kettle you see. Your spare change can literally change someone’s life when you donate to The Salvation Army.”

Kettles can be found across the Portland Metro area until Christmas Eve. To make a donation or volunteer visit cascade.salvationarmy.org.
