Why: The Salvation Army participates in the Veterans Day Parade to pay tribute to the selfless service of all US soldiers who have fought bravely for the freedoms and values of Americans.
When: Friday, Nov. 11, 10 a.m. – noon.
Where: NE Beech St and NE Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd in Portland.
History: For the first time since 1974, the parade will travel along Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. instead of NE Sandy Blvd. The parade was established by Vernon E. Ross, then-proprietor of Ross Hollywood Funeral Chapel. Dignity Memorial assumed planning responsibilities until pausing the parade in 2020 and made the difficult decision to step down from organizing. Now leading the parade’s team of organizers is Napoleon Hodgers, Commander of the Northwest Chapter of National Association of Black Veterans. *Source: VeteransDayPDX.org and press release.
