Century High School Students Volunteer with The Salvation Army Portland Metro

Local Student Ring Kettle Bells for Local Neighbors in Need

(Portland, Oregon) December 14, 2021 – Students from Century High School in Hillsboro, Oregon are ringing kettle bells for their neighbors in need this holiday season.
Last weekend they raised over $1,000 through their kettle ringing. The students are ringing again on Saturday, 12/18 beginning at 10:00 A.M at Fred Meyer (6495 SE Tualatin Valley Hwy, Hillsboro, OR 97123) in Hillsboro.

The Student bell ringing effort is coordinated by Monte Akers, president of the Optimist Club of Hillsboro, and Wayne Bohm, a teacher who teaches psychology, sociology, and AVID at Century High School.

The Salvation Army Portland Metro has a goal of raising $500,000 this Christmas season through red kettles to help local families in need.

The Red Kettle tradition started 128 years ago and continues today as an easy way for people to help others in need. Your donation at any of our Red Kettles across the Portland Metro area is essential to funding our programs to serve those in need at Christmas and year-round.

The Red Kettle Campaign officially started on November 20th and Red Kettles will be located at many local retail sites through Christmas Eve. For those that might not have cash handy, donations to the Red Kettle Campaign can also be made online at RedKettlePortland.org

About the Red Kettle Campaign

From its humble origin as a fundraiser started by a Salvation Army captain in San Francisco in 1891, the Red Kettle Campaign has grown into one of the most recognizable and important charitable campaigns in the United States. As part of the campaign, more than 25,000 Salvation Army workers and volunteers spread throughout the country to ring bells and solicit spare change donations to the iconic red kettles from holiday shoppers.
