PORTLAND, OR (July 25, 2022) – After more than 18,000 public votes, The Salvation Army Female Emergency Shelter Center (SAFES) in downtown Portland is one of six non-profits to receive an Advantis Credit Union grow™ grant from The Advantis Community Fund.
Major Bob Lloyd, Portland Metro Coordinator at The Salvation Army Cascade Division, said that the $10,000 grant will allow for several improvements at SAFES, located at 30 SW 2nd Ave. in Portland.
“The Advantis grow ™ grant is vital to our mission to provide hot meals, five days a week, to anyone who shows up hungry at SAFES’ Hospitality Program,” noted Major Bob Lloyd. “The funds allow our ‘window of hope’ to gain service capacity, as well as making improvements to our emergency services for vulnerable women in urgent need.”
SAFES includes Safe Harbor at Fairbridge Program, which is a 12-month, self-sufficiency program with the goal of helping at-risk women (age 18 and over) past final barriers they may have towards permanent housing. Those barriers are evictions, property debt, poor rental history, criminal history, or sometimes simply navigating the endless wait lists to affordable housing. There are currently 15 women living in SAFES’ single rooms. Additionally, a Hospitality Program on-site, serves about 150 meals a day, five days a week, from a generous donation by Whole Foods Market. Other donation items on-site include clothing, general hygiene items, blankets, tarps, and tents.
The Operations Manager at SAFES is Kristi Bugge. For more information please call (503) 227-0810 or visit www.safes.salvationarmy.org or www.portland.salvationarmy.org.
