The Salvation Army Cascade Division awards Portland Police Bureau with a Commander’s Trophy during National Salvation Army Week

 

Portland, OR (May 12, 2022)- The Salvation Army Cascade Division kicked off National Salvation Army Week (May 9-15) during a morning ceremony on Tuesday at the Portland Police Bureau.  Major Bob Lloyd and Major Raymond Dihle of The Salvation Army Cascade Division honored the following Portland Police Bureau chiefs during the ceremony: Assistant Chief Jami Resch, Deputy Chief Mike Frome, Chief Chuck Lovell and Assistant Chief Mike Leasure.  The chiefs were honored with the Commander’s Trophy for their efforts over the holidays in a bell ringing competition.    

Major Bob Lloyd, Portland Metro Coordinator of The Salvation Army Cascade Division, noted as the organization kicks off National Salvation Army Week, it was appropriate to honor the Portland Police Bureau for its long support.

“Our local Portland Police Department has shared our desire to serve our community by supporting our Christmas Toy and Joy programs, our recreational programs at our service centers, and even ringing the Christmas bell,” Major Lloyd said. “Chief Lovell, his staff, and their entire team, as well as their predecessors over the years, have been important partners since The Salvation Army arrived in Portland in 1886.” 

 The Salvation Army provides services to more than 312,934 Oregonians each year, which includes 69,517 nights of lodging, more than 771,068 meals, and summer camps for mor than 800 underprivileged children.

 According to a State of Oregon Proclamation Office of the Governor statement: “The Salvation Army has been meeting physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the people of Oregon for 135 years, and has been serving our military men and women since World War I.  The Salvation Army plays a critical role in responding to disasters locally and worldwide, including earthquakes and tsunamis, tornados and floods, and firm and famine,” Kate Brown, Governor of the State of Oregon.
