PORTLAND, OR (Nov. 19, 2022) – The Salvation Army Portland Moore Street Corps & Community Center will serve a Thanksgiving dinner for the local community on Sunday, Nov. 20, from 2-4 p.m., located at 5325 N. Williams Ave. in Portland. The meal will be a traditional Thanksgiving sit-down meal. Food boxes are available weekly on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Portland Moore Street Corps Officer Lt. Omoduni George said last year the community center served 171 Thanksgiving meals and this year’s goal is 300 meals. This holiday dinner happens at a time when so many people are facing additional need, both financially and mentally.
“This dinner is for anyone who would be alone or has no family to go to this Thanksgiving,” Lt. George said. “We are a community of Spirit-filled disciples, and we invite all individuals or families to dine in fellowship with us on this special day.”
Community partners for the Thanksgiving dinner include financial supporters Town & Country Fence and The Rueck Co. In-kind gifts were offered by Restaurant Depot at Hayden Meadows and Reser’s Outlet Store in Beaverton.
Since 1924, The Salvation Army Cascade Division has served North Portland. Portland Moore Street offers food, holiday assistance, and school supplies. Additionally, the corps and community center offers weekly Sunday School, worship services, youth activities, and fellowship for adults.
